چکیده

Frequcncy dornaiii models for tlic vocal t,ract with distributcd sources are introduced. Pressure and voluinc velocity distributed sources arc inodcled within iiicreniciital lossy cylindrical pipes i n a manner similar to that of inodcliiig electrical cornponciits. Equations for transmission matrices of uniforn-area vocal tract scctioiis with distributed sources are dcrivc:d. Transfer finictioris for pressure and volume velocity at various scgmcnts of t,he vocal tract are coriiputcrl. Cornparison of distributed sourcc niodcls with point sorirce models revcal sevcral iniprovcincnts 011 the traditional limped source rriodclirig rncthod and shows that tlic effects of t,lic finitc irripcdcncc coilstriction arid hack cavity cam iiot bc adcquatcly modclod using poiiit soiirces. The distributed sourcc vocal tract framework is important for building articulatory alii1 acoustic models for fricativt: soiinds and othcr plioiiciric categories. This paper provides sucli a rnathcrriatical framework for tlie first, tirnc.

Simple physical models of the vocal tract for education in speech science

In the speech-related field, physical models of the vocal tract are effective tools for education in acoustics. Arai’s cylindertype models are based on Chiba and Kajiyama’s measurement of vocal-tract shapes. The models quickly and effectively demonstrate vowel production. In this study, we developed physical models with simplified shapes as educational tools to illustrate how vocal-tract shape ...

Effects of Voice Therapy on Vocal Tract Discomfort in Muscle Tension Dysphonia

Introduction: Patients with muscle tension dysphonia (MTD) suffer from several physical discomforts in their vocal tract. However, few studies have examined the effects of voice therapy (VT) on the vocal tract discomfort (VTD) in patients with voice disorders. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of VT on the VTD in patients with MTD.   Materi...

Effects of Acoustic Loading on the Self-oscillations of a Synthetic Model of the Vocal Folds

Synthetic models were used as test beds for the verification of mathematical models of voice production. A silicone synthetic model of the human vocal folds was used to investigate the influence of the acoustic properties of the subglottal and supraglottal tracts on the self-oscillation onset pressure and frequencies. The geometry and mechanical properties of the homogeneous synthetic model wer...

Physical Models Producing Vowels with Pitch Variation

Physical models of the human vocal tract are useful for education in acoustics and speech science. To excite such vocal-tract models, different types of sound sources may be used. We have developed two new types of physical models which produce a glottal source with a variable fundamental frequency. Both types are based on a reed vibration, and the length of the vibratory portion can be varied ...

Voice synthesis usingthe generalized pressure-Controlled valve

Vowel production in human speech depends both on the vocal tract shape, primarily establishing formant frequencies in the speech spectrum, and the vibration of vocal folds in the larynx, which function as a pressure-controlled valve regulating airflow into the the vocal tract. This research explores the application of the generalized dynamic pressure-control valve model to the synthesis of voic...
